Nea Anchialos is only 6 km from the airport. Volos is located north of Nea Anchialos, at 17 km. It is a modern port city with a rich cultural life, interesting nightlife, distinctive local cuisine (tsipouro drink). Pelion right next to Volos, is a place blessed by the gods, a magic mountain, full of mystery and beauty. Myths and traditions have tried to describe it. Stone houses, cobbled fountain painted by the greenery of the mountain, dew on each sheet. Ski resort with slopes for winter sports activities such as horse riding, mountain hiking, train of Pelion, nightlife and gastronomy make the area a favorite destination.
The area of Volos and Pelion is endowed with the characteristics of all those which emerge as basic choices for Greek and foreign visitors for holidays or short excursions. The natural beauty of the area with its rich cultural heritage and particularly the combination of a magic mountain and a blue sea offers a selection of fun, recreation and holidays, that hardly exhausts. The modern city of Volos and its surrounding area is steeped in history and mythology, including the international known Argo, the mythical ship, known worldwide through the myth of the Argonauts and the campaign of Jason to Colchis and the legendary Centaurs who lived in Pelion, remarkable local architecture, especially gastronomy, cultural traditions, archeology and thematic museums, archaeological sites, sacred monuments and numerous events.
From Volos, visitors can take a ferry which brings them to the islands of cosmopolitan Skiathos, green Skopelos and beautiful Alonissos. Both Skiathos and Skopelos Islands are a must for beach fanatics with its turquoise clear water and the strong sun. Skopelos and its neighbour Skiathos were the filming locations of the 2008 film Mamma Mia. In spring and summer the interest of the people moves to dozens of small and large beaches of Pagasetic Gulf: crowded beaches, vast scorching sand, secluded coves, rugged cliffs and clear waters, seaside tavernas, beach bars, water sports, sailing.
The ski resort is located 28 km from the city of Volos, on the north side of aspen summit at an altitude of 1200 to 1470 meters. In the ski resort one can find 5 lifts, slopes with total length of 12 km, 3 parking spaces, shelter of 80 people, and ski school. The vegetation in the area consists of beech while the view is panoramic towards the sea. Finally visitors can also enjoy short road trips to internationally known places like Meteora. Only 2 hours away one can see one of the largest and most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece. Also Mount Olympus, notable in Ancient Greek Mythology as the home of the Twelve Olympian gods, on the Mytikas peak can be found just 1 ½ hours away.
