Villa Opal is a 3 floor mansion originally built in the late 19th century for a wealthy merchant and his family. Designed by an English architect in the contemporary European style and surrounded by rich vegetation, the villa is a faithful exhibition of Corfu’s rich history. In 2018 the villa was refurbished, with the introduction of modern technology balanced with respect for the original mansion’s historic design and architecture. The result is a heaven on earth where guests can enjoy all of today’s comforts in a unique setting of Corfiot architectural elements; the arches, the Venetian blinds, the wooden staircase and the heavy 19th century wooden door. These traditional fittings combine with the villa’s classic furniture and decoration to transport guests through time and shine a light on Corfu’s golden past. The view of the blue Ionian Sea from every room adds a touch of Greek serenity to the villa’s timeless luxury.
The villa’s ground floor houses its living room and fully equipped kitchen. The living room’s unique atmosphere is created by its antique furniture, including a 10-person dining table sitting under an imposing mirror, a replica of the grand mirror of Althorp Castle. A working fireplace completes the effect, while also providing warmth and comfort at cooler times of year. A 50-inch TV supplies the modern touch that brings guests back into the 21st century. The interior staircase leads to the bedrooms and bathrooms on the two upper floors. On the first floor there are two interconnected bedrooms, whose connecting door can be closed or left open for immediate access, ideal for a family with young children. One of the bedrooms contains a double bed and the other two twin beds. On this floor are also found two bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a shower, bathtub and a double washbasin. On the second floor there is one bedroom with a double bed and another with two twin beds, sharing a bathroom with a shower. There is also a master bedroom with its own bathroom, equipped with a shower and a double washbasin. Each room exudes its own personality by its furnishings and decoration, and is brightened by wonderful light from the windows through which guests can enjoy amazing views over the Ionian Sea.
The villa’s rooms have been equipped with all the features that make them suitable for accommodating guests all year round with no detail left unattended, whether it be a central cooling & heating system or mosquito nets on the windows.
As one of Greece’s most cosmopolitan islands, Corfu is full of life all year around. From the beginning of spring until the end of autumn, thousands of visitors arrive on the island, but there are also many people who choose to visit during the winter season. Whenever you visit, the island has many activities to choose from, meeting the various needs of any family or group.
In the warmer months, the island’s beautiful beaches come to the fore, with crystal-clear waters surrounded by lush vegetation creating a magnificent image as the green shades of the trees descend into the blues of the Ionian Sea. Given the island’s wide range of beaches, you are sure to find one to fit your tastes, whether you seek sand, pebbles, isolation, organisation or a children-friendly setting.
The varied culture of today’s Corfu has been developed by the many cultures that have passed through the island throughout its history. The people of Corfu love their cultural heritage and look to preserve it unchanged, notably in the island’s architecture and music, but also in its events, festivals, gastronomy, and in the local dialect – that you might say more closely resembles an Italian song than Greek speech!
