Rebuilt to its actual form in 1899 by Georges Theotoky, prime minister of Greece, it was also occupied by its descendants Ioannis Theotoky – also prime minister.Villa Palazzo was the place of childhood of Ioannis’ son Georges Theotoky, late owner of the Theotoky Estate, the island’s finest bio wine production. The house is named in honor of George’s love and wife Claudia Matarazzo Theotoky, artist and painter, who renovated the house 30 years ago to incorporate its unique tusco veneziano and current interior design.
Located in the authentic village of Doukades, the villa is 10 min away from the most famous beach in Corfou, Palaiokastritsa, known for its hidden caves carved by the sea. The house is 800 sqm wide, composed of three floors.
Passed the entry gate, you find yourself crossing the english garden planted by Jane Digby, wife of Spiridon Theotoky. Especially known for its unique feature including a mix of flower garden, tall and majestic cypress and palm trees, the garden’s night lightings give it a sense of timelessness. After a light climb, you reach the stairs giving access to the house’s main entrance, providing a first sense of the towering stature of the house, inscribed with the Theotoky‘s family coat of arms. From the entrance a wide terrasse offers to your eyes a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and historical village of Doukades. This is also a uniquely suited position from where to enjoy evening drinks or read a book during the coolest hours.
Located in Doukades, the mansion consists of three floors, 7 bedrooms, 4 double beds and 5 single beds. We highly recommend a average capacity of 9 to 11 people to fully enjoy the house’s complete offering.
A 6 meter high-ceiling entrance welcomes guests, adjoined by a living room with its own terrace – practical for coffee or reading a book – and a dining room which can welcome up to 12 participants. Auxiliary areas include a fully-equipped kitchen and laundry rooms.
Composed of 3 main rooms with independent quarters, each of the rooms offers a unique proposition.
Going up the wooden staircase from the veranda on the right of the house gives you access to the Atelier, a spacious suite formerly used by Claudia as painting room.
Upon arriving on the first floor you arrive to George’s quarters, a reminder of the prime minister and former owner. On the opposite side of the terrasse, the Digby’s quarters incorporate the same set of independent quarters as George’s quarters.A long corridor at the back of the terrasse offer access to the second floor and Central rooms included in the Digby’s quarters. On each side of the house, should you follow the wooden staircases all the way to the top tower, bedrooms with a simple wooden decor can be found.
