Built to take maximum advantage of its unique location, its open architecture brings the outdoor and indoor living areas and the unique views seamlessly together. With several wide shady balconies/verandas leading down to the large infinity swimming pool, this villa offers guests the ultimate Mediterranean lifestyle. Beautiful landscaping, defining the different architectural levels, completes the picture.
The villa is set on a series of terraces with pergolas, water and plants. The emphasis is on nature.
All bedrooms are fully air-conditioned and the villa has been furnished to a high standard by the owners creating a light, bright and airy atmosphere. All building material and appliances have been selected for their aesthetic appeal and practicality. The result is prime natural luxury. With cream-coloured slate roofing tiles, stone-built verandas, beautiful wood flooring and timber ceiling beams, the villa is of first-class quality.
Villa is set on three levels:
On the ground level, there is the swimming pool with its outdoor living area and garden shower, the guestroom with an en suite bathroom, the powder room, a covered drinks area and an indoor mini bar by the villa’s main entrance. On the first level, there is the inside living area, the kitchen and outdoor dining area. On the top level there are two bedrooms and a bathroom.
Bedroom 1: The master bedroom is on the top level; it has a big double bed with a top-quality orthopaedic mattress (Cocomat), 2 bedside tables, a fitted wardrobe and wooden floor and ceiling. Its spotlights can be regulated by a dimmer. The room’s highlight is its stunning view of the sea and the island of Panayia, which one can see from the balcony as well as when lying on one’s bed!
Bedroom 2: The second bedroom (the children’s bedroom), also on the top level, has two single beds with orthopaedic mattresses, a bedside table, a modern wooden desk with a PC, a big fitted wardrobe and wooden floor and ceiling. Its spotlights can be regulated by a dimmer. From its balcony and window, one can admire the sea view.
Bedroom 3: The third double bedroom (the guestroom) is on the ground level (the swimming pool level). It is partly isolated from the rest of the house, very spacious with an en suite bathroom (see bathroom 2). It has two large single beds with orthopaedic mattresses, a bedside table, a large fitted wardrobe, a desk, a set of bookshelves and wooden floor. Its wide balcony door opens onto the ground floor covered veranda (drinks area) “bringing” the swimming pool inside the room. From one’s bed, one gets a view of the swimming pool and the olive trees in the background.
All three bedrooms are air-conditioned and have wide windows with wooden shutters and sliding mosquito screens.
The interior first level of the villa has a relaxed atmosphere; interior walls have been kept to a minimum to create a large open-plan living, dining and cooking area. There is a stone-built fireplace, timber ceiling beams and wooden floors. It is surrounded by a large veranda which can be accessed through several very wide balcony doors. In addition, there are four windows.
The decoration is simple, modern and luxurious in a minimalistic way. There is a stone-built sofa next to the fireplace, decorated with comfortable hand-made cushions, two armchairs and a coffee table. Opposite the fire place there is a bookcase.
In the same area, one can find a television set and a DVD player. The whole living area is lit by discrete spotlights and decorated with original modern paintings.
The fully equipped kitchen comes with everything one needs to prepare a simple snack or a full meal (big refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, oven, microwave oven, coffee machine, toaster and kettle, cutlery, saucepans, plates, towels, etc.).
Between the kitchen and the living area there is an indoor dining area for 4-6 persons with an extensible table, an extra set of shelves and a revolving bookcase.
The outdoor living area has wooden (teak) furniture. At the swimming pool level there are five sun beds (with mattresses), 2 canvas deck chairs, 2 canvas armchairs, 2 stools, a coffee table and a drinks’ trolley. The swimming pool is naturally shaded by olive trees and discretely surrounded by greenery, mainly bushes. There is also an outdoor shower, close to the swimming pool, surrounded by trees and a climbing bougainvillaea.
On the first level veranda there is a big wooden extensible dining table for 6-8 people. The outdoor dining area overlooks the swimming pool and the olive trees, with a view of the sea and the island of Panayia. It is decorated with plants, including a colourful bougainvillaea and a jasmine tree. Shade is provided by a modern pergola consisting of wooden beams with interlaced cream-coloured canvas.
Thanks to the ideal situation of the house, the swimming pool area is never completely exposed to the sun. There are spots naturally shaded by olive trees during the whole day and there is also a covered veranda at the same level (drinks area). The first floor veranda is in the shade until the early afternoon and then again as from 8 pm, when the sun sets behind the hills right opposite. The children’s bedroom balcony on the upper floor is in the sun from early in the morning until early in the afternoon, while the master bedroom balcony is in the sun in the afternoon.
Villa Marianthi is above the road that leads along the coast from Gaios (Paxos’s main town/harbour) to Mongonisi (a natural marina) - just beyond Paxos Beach Hotel; exact location: Soulanena.
The nearest beaches are the one at Paxos Beach Hotel and another called “Donkey’s ears” (aftia tou Gaidarou) after two offshore ear-shaped rocks. The first is an organised beach with deckchairs and parasols as well as a bar and a restaurant. The second one is quieter and less shady. Both have white pebbles and the sea water is crystal clear.
The villa is situated in a quiet area of the island with no restaurants or shops nearby; most importantly, it does not face any other buildings. The villa faces northwest – the ground and first level terraces are in the shade during the morning and early afternoon. Late in the afternoon there is a beautiful view of the sun setting behind the green hills opposite the villa.
The villa overlooks the road but, as it is situated in a quiet spot of the island, there is not much traffic. The main “noise” is the cicadas during the day and night birds or owls at night.
